What is

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement

Hormones are chemical substances that act like messengers in the body; when they are secreted they carry information and instructions into the bloodstream and tissues. Hormones are released as a reaction to something unbalanced in our body. As we age production of hormones is affected and can result in the development of illness or mood disturbances. Stress, environmental exposures, and xenoestrogens are some examples of hormone disruptors. Traditionally, western medicine practitioners do not assess hormone imbalances and rather prescribe medications such as antidepressants to address symptoms of hormone imbalance.

Depression is associated with thyroid dysfunction, estrogen fluctuations, and lows of testosterone.

The hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, pancreas and adrenals are the main endocrine glands in the body. These glands communicate and are connected via different axes in the body. The Hypothalamic Pituitary Adrenal (HPA) axis plays an important role in stress response. When any part of the HPA axis is unbalanced it can result in a variety of unpleasant symptoms and health problems. Blood sugar dysregulation and insulin resistance, inflammation, gut dysbiosis, liver detoxification issues, and diet stress (food sensitivities, low nutrient intake) can also cause imbalance in stress hormones. In our Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) program, each hormonal axis is assessed for dysfunction, and appropriate treatment is offered with supplements and bioidentical hormones.

Up to 70% of men with testosterone deficiency also have metabolic disease. Treating testosterone deficiency can: improve insulin resistance, improve body composition, and improve lipid profiles.

  • The first step to our program includes booking in for an initial consultation. At this appointment we discuss symptoms you are hoping to correct and offer you resources and supplement recommendations. We provide you with a blood work requisition to be completed through Alberta Health.

After you have collected your blood work you are required to book in for a second appointment. At this appointment we review your blood work results and offer you supplement and bioidentical hormone prescriptions to correct any imbalances found in your blood work. We also provide you with another blood work requisition. We recommend collecting more blood work after you have been on your recommended treatment plan for a minimum of two months. With this blood work we are able to assess efficacy of your treatment.
